Options Flow Intelligence: Reading Institutional Intent
February 18, 2026
Why Options Flow Matters
Options flow is the closest thing retail traders have to reading institutional intent. When a fund buys $5 million in SPY puts, that information is public. The challenge is finding it, understanding it, and acting on it before the move.
VigQuant aggregates and analyzes multiple dimensions of institutional flow:
Dark Pool Activity
Dark pools are private exchanges where institutions trade large blocks without moving the market. While the trades are reported after execution, the prints reveal positioning that isn't visible on public exchanges.
VigQuant surfaces dark pool prints with size context — showing whether institutional players are accumulating or distributing, and how current activity compares to historical norms.
Unusual Options Activity
Not every large options trade is significant. Market makers hedge constantly. What matters is identifying trades that break from the norm: unusual size, unusual strikes, unusual expiration, unusual timing.
VigQuant flags options activity that exceeds statistical norms and contextualizes it with the current regime, upcoming catalysts, and historical patterns for that ticker.
Gamma Exposure (GEX)
Market makers' hedging activity creates predictable price behavior around certain levels. When dealers are long gamma, they dampen moves. When short gamma, they amplify them. Understanding where these levels sit gives you a map of likely support and resistance.
VigQuant's GEX analysis identifies key levels, pinning zones, and the direction of dealer hedging flow — critical context for intraday and 0DTE trading.
Putting It Together
Each signal alone is useful. Combined with regime detection, price action, and the ARES adversarial debate, they become powerful. A dark pool accumulation signal in a bullish regime with rising GEX support is a very different setup than the same signal in a volatile, risk-off environment.
Options flow signals are available across all VigQuant tiers with volume limits based on subscription level.
